Every so often you get to meet some truly amazing young people that get it! They love their Nation, are Natural born Leaders from very loving and Patriotic Families. On Saturday November 30th, 2013 The State of IL Commander Johns Kapior, along with the Department’s Fiance Officer and the Lady President for the State of IL Ladies Auxiliary traveled to Marengo. Our mission to present and honorary plaque of gratitude and a show of respect for young Jacob Jeffrey Olbrich’s efforts in raising enough funds to build a Purple Heart monument in their community.
During these difficult economic times, this was quite a commitment for a senior in High School. Jacob visited many philanthropic organizations and held various fundraising efforts and achieved his goal. On July the 4th, 2013 a Purple Heart Monument was dedicated in the Patriotic Calvin Spencer Park, Marengo IL. Jacob started his involvement at the wee age of 6 in Tiger Cubs and has also too earned the highest honor in Cub Scouting of the Arrow of Light award. He avails from Troops # 163 and achieved his success in this project due to the support of his peers, parents from the Troops and Troop Leadership. No man is an island, however it does take initiative and commitment, and this is what is significant about Jacob!
Through the recommendation of of his project mentor Marine Veteran Joe McLachlin, Jacob turned 9 months into a fundraising frenzy. Within that period of time he raised the required sum of 6,000 to erect this prestigious Purple Heart Monument. We had the distinct honor of attending Jacob’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony. What an inspiration this young Eagle is…………….! Congrats and Thank You on behalf of every Purple Heart recipient, and Gold Star Family whose loved one earned their award posthumously.
